The Ministry Of Lectors At Sacred Heart Parish

Lectors are those who proclaim the Word of God at the Eucharistic Liturgies celebrated here at Sacred Heart. Lectors prepare in advance the readings for the Mass, proclaim them at Mass, lead the Prayers of the Faithful, and assist in other ways as needed. Lectors are usually scheduled about once a month for weekend liturgies.

A lector possesses certain skills necessary to the ministry: an ability to read and understand the scripture being read and an ability to be comfortable standing in front of people when reading. High school age and older are eligible. The term of a lector is usually three years but exceptions are allowed.

After expressing an interest in becoming a lector you will be contacted to arrange training times. Upon successful completion of the training program, the Pastor is responsible for appointing you as a lector.

Sacred Heart is committed to the ongoing development, training, and supervision of lectors. Winifred Murphy, Pastoral Associate, is responsible for this. Additional information is available by contacting her at the Pastoral Associate Office, 617-969-4021.
