Mission

The grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Sacred Heart Parish, established within the Archdiocese of Boston in 1890, is a faith-community of Catholic Christians who live in the city of Newton, MA, Sacred Heart Parish has a long history and many traditions.  This history and these traditions are preserved in the continuity of the families that trace Parish membership to the earliest days, and are enriched by the continuing arrival of new members.

We who belong to Sacred Heart Parish constitute "a people made one in the unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit." Drawn together by common faith in the paschal mystery of Jesus Christ's death and resurrection, we share a love of God and a commitment, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to seek conversion in our own lives and to respond to Christ's mandate to being His message of salvation and love to all peoples.  Through our shared Faith, we welcome all, especially the stranger and alienated, into our community.  We are committed to living, proclaiming and witnessing the message of the Gospel.

As a Parish, we are called:

  • To worship together, especially at Sunday Liturgy, to renew and reinforce the call of the Gospel in our lives:
  • To evangelize and educate, to nurture, deepen and reinforce our own faith and to bring Christ's message of salvation to others:
  • To serve one another, especially those most in need in the Parish and beyond: and
  • To exercise responsible stewardship of the human and physical resources of the Parish.

To respond to that call we have agreed on the following primary goals:

  • 1. To be a welcoming, inclusive and caring Faith-community.
  • 2. To have evangelization and education ministries that support the ongoing conversion of current parishioners and invite non-practicing Catholics and Christians alike to our community.
  • 3. To have vibrant, participatory liturgical celebrations that make the Word of God real in our lives.
  • 4. To call forth the time, treasure and talents of each parishioner in service to the Parish and to the wider community.
