Parish Pastoral Council

February 2, 2010, Feast of the Presentation of the Lord

Dear Parishioners:

Re: Pastoral Planning

As we enter a New Year and look forward to the Lenten season of prayer and reflection, the Pastor and the Parish Pastoral Council welcome you to become a part of planning at Sacred Heart.

What is it ?: Pastoral planning is the process of praying and thinking together about the pastoral needs and projects of Sacred Heart parish. This entails a realistic assessment of the present, looks toward the future and establishes goals and concrete actions to move the parish forward.

Why Now?: Much is changing in the world around us: demographic shifts, economic climate, secular challenges. The last comprehensive study of our parish pastoral plan was in 1999. The 2007 Archdiocesan planning report notes the decline in number of active ordained clergy which will require more creative and collaborative ways of building up the Body of Christ.

Who does it? All of us!! It is the role of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) to assist the pastor in his leadership role of the parish. Over these past months, the PPC has begun working on the development of a Pastoral Plan for S.H. parish. This plan will present the basic elements for Mission (our purpose, i.e., who we are and what we do), Vision (our future), Goals (initiatives to move us forward), Objectives (activities to reach goals) and Action steps (needed each year).

The PPC has settled upon a draft Mission Statement that concisely speaks of who we are and what we are about.

Sacred Heart is a welcoming and diverse Catholic parish called by our Risen Lord Jesus Christ to a common mission of discipleship. We gather to celebrate the Eucharist, live the Gospel and serve others in His name.

The PPC enthusiastically invites you to be part of the conversation…talk with each other, chat at coffee hour, drop an e-mail or phone your PPC members, parish office, pastor, or any staff person. SACRED HEART PARISH REALLY NEEDS AND VALUES YOUR INPUT AND PARTICIPATION.

Reverend John J. Connelly, Pastor and your Parish Pastoral Council
