Sacraments

At Sacred Heart Parish, we are pleased to be able to offer the Sacraments and their instructions in both English and American Sign Language.

Arrangements for all sacramental celebrations may be made by contacting the rectory office.

Baptism

From the earliest of times, the Church, to which the mission of preaching the Gospel and of baptizing was entrusted, has baptized children as well as adults. Children (referring to those who have not yet reached the age of reason) are publicly proclaimed as a child of God with the rights and responsibilities of all members of our baptized community. The faith which is proclaimed for them by their parents and godparents, is the beginning of their formation which will lead them to learn of God’s plan so that they may ultimately accept for themselves the faith in which they have been baptized.

Arrangement for this Sacrament of Initiation my be made by contacting the Rectory.

RCIA/RITE of Christian Initiation for Adults

This process is designed for adults who, after hearing the mystery of Christ proclaimed, consciously and freely seek the living God and enter the way of faith and conversion as the Holy Spirit opens their hearts. Through the process of discernment, each will be strengthened spiritually during their preparation and at the proper time will receive the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) fruitfully.

Please call the Religious Education Office for more details.

Confirmation

Signed with the gift of the Holy Spirit in Confirmation, Catholics accept their role as witnesses to the faith, thus bearing witness to God’s love for His world and working for the completion of His Kingdom on earth.

Eucharist/Communion

The celebration of the Eucharist is the center of the entire Christian life. Christ, the Lord, “is offered in the sacrifice of the mass when He begins to be sacramentally present as the spiritual food of the faithful under the appearances of bread and wine” (Pope Paul VI).

Please go to Communion Guidelines for more information.

Reconciliation (Confessions)

Due to the weakness of the human condition, our relationship with God becomes broken at worst and fragmented at best. The Lord therefore has instituted a special sacrament of pardon for sins we commit after Baptism. Reconciliation begins with acknowledging our sins and a clear willingness to better ourselves as God’s children.  Church law requires every Catholic to participate in this sacrament at least once a year.

Reconciliation (confession) is offered weekly on Saturdays from 2-3:30pm or anytime by appointment.

Marriage

In virtue of the sacrament of marriage, Christians signify and share in the mystery of the unity and fruitful love that exists between Christ and His Church. They, because of the marriage covenant in which they freely enter, help each other to attain holiness in their married life and thus witness in a special way to the greater community.

Please go to Marriage Preparation for more information.

Visitation to the Sick

A physical presence is not always possibly, therefore the community extends itself to those who cannot celebrate the sacraments with us in Church because of illness, physical limitations or age.

If you wish to receive the sacraments (Confession; Communion; Anointing of the Sick), please call. It is also important for family and friends to know that you would like the parish notified in case of hospitalization. It is the only way the community can offer assistance in such situations.

Christian Burial/Funeral

In the face of death, the Church confidently proclaims that God has created each person for eternal life and that, Jesus, the Son of God, by his death and resurrection, has broken the chains of sin and death for all of humanity. Christ has guaranteed that we who share in Christ’ baptism and death, will also share in the promise of a New Life.

Arrangement can be made by contacting the Rectory.
